DIY Floor Matt – Wood: Tips for Get­ting Started

 Any lum­ber will do. Con­sid­er what will hold up in weath­er, as well as the appear­ance. Maybe alter­nate col­ors and so forth. Your choic­es.  I USED SCRAPS.  Look over these plans before start­ing to build  to help you decide whether to build as pre­sent­ed or set your own dimen­sions. You can deter­mine your over­all size. Then esti­mate size of pieces. 

There are only two wood shapes in this project. I call them main run­ner, and the endings.

Fin­ish­ing:  Strict­ly Rough Sawed, so I did no sand­ing. I stained with “Home-made” Wal­nut stain. made from hulls from fall­en wal­nuts. When fin­ished I stained it, then used Clear lin­seed oil as a slight weath­er resis­tant affect.
